Fabulous English Places

I am from Sussex. West Sussex to be precise, but my part of West Sussex is so close to the boundary for East Sussex that many places I used to visit were in either of the counties.

Seven Sisters
One of the most iconic images of England is that of the Seven Sisters, beautiful chalk cliffs, part of the South Downs, a range of chalk hills inhabited since ancient times peppered with iron age sites such as Chanctonbury Hill, under which King Arthur and his knights are said to sleep until they are needed to come to the aid of England in her most desperate hour (he may need to get a move on!)

Church at Chichester
Chichester is the county seat of West Sussex, ancient capital of the Regnenses, probably the Roman Noviomagus. Chichester is a hot cultural scene for fringe theater and music as well as being nearby to the world famous Fishbourne Roman Palace. I was passionate about latin as a child and my Dad often used to schlep me down to the palace to have a look around!

Since this is a very quick attempt to get some lovely pics up on this page, let me just finish with a picture of Ditchling, a village in Sussex that is very precious to my family because it is where we went and fed the ducks for several decades - or at least until somebody said it wasn't good for the ducks to feed them bread any more!
